Creating a festive feel in your home
Believe it or not, the arrival of Christmas is just over two weeks away. Many of your will be busy deciding between a real or fake Christmas tree, who will be on your Christmas card list and who you will be having over for Christmas dinner, but have you thought about your home?
If you usually play host to entertaining at Christmas, whether around the dinner table or over canapés giving your home the festive feel can mean anything from having the right amount of chairs right through to the right amount of lights.
Here Russell Francis of Market Harborough gives you our top tips for festive furniture pieces:
#1 A warm welcome
The entrance to your home should be inviting and comforting when guests enter your home, especially at Christmas. Remove any clutter to create a more open feel. If you have a sideboard in your hallway, make space for your guests to put presents and belongings and offer somewhere for guests to hang their coats, as they’re likely to be bringing one if it’s cold outside.
#2 Open spaces
Christmas is a time when relatives and friends who haven’t seen each other for some time often gather to catch up. If they’re likely to be gathering at your home then make sure you provide comfortable seating which allows your guests to feel at home.
If your current sofas or chairs just don’t cut it, then we still have ranges available for Christmas delivery. Or, consider moving your existing sofa and armchairs into a semi circular position, around a coffee table perhaps, to allow your visitors to place their drinks while talking.
#3 Sociable dining
Christmas dinner is often the grand finale of Christmas Day, before everyone slips off into a dose in front of the television. Facilitate conversation with table settings that are not too cramped, consider large rectangular dining tables which will provide enough space to pull a cracker or two and toast good tidings.
Our dining tables and chairs from Karel Mintjens or Skovby will provide style and comfort for many Christmases to come.
#4 Guest bed
It is likely that some of your guests will be travelling across the country for Christmas festivities, if this is the case you will want to ensure that they have a comfortable bed to rest their head, particularly in Winter.
We have just taken on a new range Sealy UK which provide practical comfort and support while you sleep, in some stunning designs, so comfortable that your guests won’t want to leave.
